Blog #2 5/23/23 Jack and Jill
At my home church, First Baptist of Tangerine Fl, we recently started a seniors ministry we call Senior Moments. We gather once a month for lunch, devotionals and testimonies, music and fun and games. We called our May gathering Hill Billy Nonsense and some friends and I did episode #7 from the book about Elmer and Emily’s visit to the city. We also put together our own Hee Haw band and played various characters from the T. V. series, telling jokes and doing silly antics. Overall, it seemed to be an entertaining afternoon for our seniors and guests. At the end of episode #7, Elmer is confronted by the biblical truth that dying without Jesus means being lost from our heavenly Father forever. In John 14:6, Jesus tells us, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.” We cannot separate the love of God from the love of Jesus. They are one and the same. Jesus was God who came to earth in the form of a man for the purpose of dying on the cross so our sins can be forgiven and therefore we can have an eternal relationship with our Savior and heavenly Father. During our Hill Billy Nonsense, I also shared this poem I wrote. Jack and Jill, Finding God’s Will Jack and Jill went up the hill To fetch a pale of water. Jack fell down, and like a clown, He tripped the farmer’s daughter. Jill went home and told her Mama ‘Bout that big ole klutz, But Mama said it didn’t matter much.
And then she explained this to Jill. You see, the men here in Corn County, They are all the same. They skipped the class in heaven, When angels passed out brains. But that is not the worst thing That could happen to us gals, ‘Cuse our men remain our greatest pals. (1)
They’re not stuck on riches, Pricey cars and fancy clothes. (2) Most of them are happy Just plowing their corn rows. When their hard day is over And they see the setting sun, They come home, ’cause they know That’s where they’ll find the fun. (3)
The baby is a toddler Who’s crawling on the floor. The twins are in their cut of jeans Chasing puppies out the door. And there’s you teenage siblings Tryin’ to figure out God’s will. (4) So I tell you, that right this minute, It’s to go and light the grill.
Tonight we’re having burgers, And a picnic on the patio outside, And after supper’s over, We’ll take an evening ride. We’ll go out to the old saw mill And look up at the stars, And count the many blessings That are ours. (5)
Your daddy loves his children, And says let’s have some more. And so i politely tell him, I’ll show you the door! But when I look at your daddy, And he looks at his wife, We know we have a truly blessed life.
Now Jill, I know you’re anxious About you’re future lot. You want to head for Hollywood And get off this ole dirt plot. But remember what your simple life Here has given you, All the love of friends and family, And all of God’s love too!
You see, the greatest pleasures In this life cannot be found, In riches fame and fortune, (8) But in God’s love that’s all around. Good relationships with others Will bring happiness to your days. And if you keep loving Jesus, He will direct you in your ways. (9) You will have God’s love around you No matter where you go, And that’s because We reap just what we sow. (10)
So my dearest darling Jill, Your country bumpkin is ok, But it will be your choice Weather you leave or choose him and stay. Just remember, the Lord will guide you, (11) In every choice you make. But always keep your mind and eyes focused On what really makes life great. (12) copyright Nancy Ebersole
Are you staying focused on what really makes life great, as well as giving us the assurance of an eternal life with our Lord and Savior in heaven one day? Spend some time with Him today! Please share Jack and Jill and anything from the book with a friend. God bless you ’til we meet again. Nancy Nonsense Ebersole
