In a Manger That Day
Well, it’s Christmas Eve, but I it did make it back as promised in my last blog, to follow up on “The Story of the Birth of Jesus According to Mary and Joseph” that I posted on Dec. 19.
Anytime I’ve shared that story with friends or at church gatherings, I have followed it by singing a song I wrote titled “In a Manger that Day,” which has a much more serious message and is a far more biblically accurate account of the events of our Savior’s birth and death on the cross.
Here are the lyrics to the song, which can be read as a poem. Please request a copy of the scored music if you are interested in hearing the melody for the purpose of singing the song.
In a Manger that Day
Away in a manger, a baby was laid, a humble beginning we’d say. Mary and Joseph knew this was God’s child. So strange to start life here that way.
In a manger where normally cattle would feed, this tiny one slept in the night. One day he would grow up and see our great need. For us he would give up his life.
And I thank you, Father, your love was revealed, when our Savior was born in the hay. Who would have imagined what mercy you gave, away in a manger that day.
Away in a manger, where this baby lay, who knew the price he would pay? The Father had sent down his very own Son, so the hearts of mankind might be won.
In a manger was lying the King of all kings. Wise men would worship his birth. Lead by a star, they brought treasure to Him, revealing they knew His great worth.
Away on a hillside we call Calvery, Jesus had become a man. We needed a Savior, He hung on a tree. He did this to honor God’s plan.
And I thank you, Father, your love was revealed when our Savior came to this earth. Today, we bring our gift of worship to Him, revealing we know His great worth.
Yes, I thank you, Father, your love was revealed, when our Savior was born in the hay. Who could have imagined what mercy you gave, away in a manger that day.
Please share this song with a friend, and don’t overlook the real reason for this glorious season. Talk to you soon. Although it will probably be next year!!! Love you, my friends, Nancy.
