new beginnings
Hello, and happy new year!
At our Senior Moments this month, I challenged our group to write down 3 resolutions to the Lord they will commit to in 2024……1. Something I’d like to do more of for the Lord……2. Something I’d like to do differently this year……..3. Something I will promise the Lord I’ll do for the first time. I encourage you to take this challenge as well. If I keep the resolutions I made, I expect to see some radical differences in my life and my relationships with others.
I wrote 2 new songs as I was thinking about the new year arriving. I’d like to share the lyrics with you today. The first one is more humorous but actually reflects how we often behave. Enjoy this song called “Do Over”………..Sometimes I think badly of somebody else, but I keep it all to myself. I figure it’s not a sin, if I keep it all in. The Lord can go forgive somebody else. I joined the local chapter of the rumor mill, and did they have something juicy to tell. I shared that tasty morsel with the neighborhood. How quickly into Satan’s trap I fell!….I need to have a do over again, maybe this time I’ll get it right. I’ll let you lead me Lord, so you can win. I’ll tell the devil to get out of my sight……I pulled out onto a fast freeway. Man, I was movin’ along! Some old geezer cut in front of me and robbed me of my joyful song……..Lord, your word tells us to speak kind words, to everybody, old and young. But when it comes to my husband, I don’t understand, differently words fall off my tongue…… I need to have a do over again, maybe this time I’ll get it right. I’ll let you lead me, Lord, so you can win. I’ll tell the devil to get out of my sight……I have a neighbor who did me wrong, and I thought we were friends. But I felt differently after that, so I carried out my revenge………..All last year, Satan messed with me. Sometimes, I didn’t do well. Every time somebody irritated me, I felt like giving them h……….well…………… I need to have a do over again, maybe this time I’ll get it right. I’ll let you lead me, Lord, so you can win. I’ll tell the devil to get out of my sight.
The other song I wrote is called “New Beginnings”…….Another year has come and gone, Father time kept marching on. We lost some good old friends and gained some new one, too. Lord, many times we’ve let you down. But forgiveness can be found. Everyday’s a new beginning, Lord, with you…….We always get a new beginning with you, Father. It seems our good behavior never lasts. When you look at us Lord, why would you bother? Yet you give us new beginnings when we ask. You’re the God of new beginnings from our past……..Lord, this child of yours has strayed, so help me find my way. I pray today I’ll do only what you want me to. Looking back, I’ve had regrets, but you’re not finished with me yet. Take this old vessel, Lord, and make me look like you……We always get a new beginning with you, Father. It seems our good behavior never lasts. When you look at us Lord, why would you bother? Yet you give us new beginnings when we ask. You’re the God of new beginnings from our past.
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. If we do find we have acted in a way that is not pleasing to the Lord, we simply need to do as John told us in 1John 1:9. “If we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Do you need to ask God to forgive you of something today? He’s always ready to give you a new beginning!
See you soon, I feel love in the air…….. Feburary is almost here. Join me then. I have a great story of how “Love Began with Cranberries.” May God bless you, Nancy.
